How truck fit calculator Works
Volume, not area
Units are rented by floor area but loaded by volume: a 10×10 at 8-ft ceilings holds ~800 cubic feet theoretical, ~500 realistic (aisles, door swing, non-stackables). Trucks are specced in cubic feet — the calculator converts your unit through the stacking multiplier into the truck volume that actually closes.
The last-10% problem
Trucks load fast until they are 90% full, then the remaining furniture plays 3-D Tetris through a ramp at an angle. This is why the one-size-up rule exists: the bigger truck turns the last hour into ten minutes. Also why door widths matter — unit doors and truck ramps both narrow the geometry that the brochure math assumes.
The one-trip premium
Two trips double fuel, time, and the odds of the rain window closing. The bigger truck (one size up, ~$15/day) is almost always cheaper than the second trip it prevents. Renting the dolly and furniture pads with it completes the kit — the $20 rental beats every scraped wall it prevents.
