How climate control calculator Works

What climate actually protects

Three enemies: heat (warps wood, melts wax, cooks electronics), cold (brittles plastics, cracks instruments), and humidity (mold, mildew, paper rot, rust). Climate control holds 55–85°F and moderate humidity — protecting the wood, leather, paper, electronics, and fabric that standard units do not.

The premium math

Climate units run 25–50% more, varying by region (humid Southeast prices the highest). The decision is expected-damage vs premium: $2,000 of wooden furniture in a Gulf-state unit for a year justifies the premium easily; metal shelving and plastic bins in a temperate zone rarely do. The calculator runs exactly this comparison.

The middle path

Interior (windowless) units beat drive-up units for temperature swing at half the climate premium; good packing — pallets off the floor, silica packs, sealed bins, no cardboard-on-concrete — covers much of the rest. The full climate premium earns its keep for genuinely sensitive contents and long durations.
